(left) In prewar years, tour buses such as the restored White Motor Company bus pictured here transported visitors throughout the park. Yellowstone now offers "Historic Sunset Tours" in replica 1930s-era tour buses that depart from Lake Hotel and take visitors to Lake Butte each evening in the summer. |
(right) Some feel that the stately ionic columns and other neoclassical touches of the 1904-1905 remodeling make Lake Hotel seem out of place in a natural setting such as Yellowstone. But others think it is a gleaming jewel by the lake. Yellowstone has never been a stranger to controversy in the past and there is every indication that the tradition of controversy will continue as long as there is a Yellowstone. |
